RMC conduit, also known as rigid metal conduit, usually has two bending methods at the construction site: cold bending and hot bending
Cold bending method
Preparation work: Ensure that the quality and specifications of RMC pipes meet the requirements, measure and mark the required bending angles and bending positions. Choose the appropriate pipe bending machine or manual pipe bending machine according to the pipe diameter. For example, manual pipe bending machines can be used for small diameter RMC pipes, while hydraulic pipe bending machines and other equipment are required for larger diameter pipes.
Fixed pipeline: Fix the RMC pipe in the clamping device of the pipe bending machine or pipe bender to ensure that the pipe does not slide or move during the bending process.
Bending: Start the pipe bending machine or manually operate the pipe bender, slowly apply bending force to gradually bend the RMC pipe to the desired angle. During the bending process, it is necessary to check whether the bending radius of the pipeline meets the requirements in a timely manner. During cold bending, the bending radius should generally be 4 times the nominal diameter of the pipe.
Hot bending method
Preparation work: It is also necessary to ensure the quality and specifications of the RMC pipe are qualified, measure and mark the bending angle and bending position. Prepare heating equipment such as gas stoves, oxyacetylene welding guns, as well as clean and dry sand, wooden plugs, etc. for filling.
Fill the pipeline: Seal one end with a wooden plug, then fill the RMC pipe with sand, while filling and tapping the pipeline to make the sand dense. After filling, also seal the other end with a wooden plug.
Heating pipeline: Use heating equipment to uniformly heat the bent part of the RMC tube. The heating temperature depends on the material of the RMC tube. For carbon steel RMC tubes, the heating temperature is usually between 800-1000 ° C. When the tube is heated to a red to yellow color, it can be removed from the furnace.
Bending pipeline: Transport the heated RMC pipe to the platform, clamp one end between two insertion rods, and place two wooden or steel plates under the pipe to maintain a certain distance between the pipe and the platform. Then tie the other end with a steel wire rope and slowly drag it in a certain direction manually or mechanically until it bends to the desired angle.
Cooling and sand removal: After the bend is completed, let the RMC tube cool naturally in the air. After cooling to room temperature, remove the wooden plugs at both ends and clean the sand inside the tube.
